Geothermal ITB, Thermochem Indonesia, and West JEC Initiated Collaboration in Geothermal Education and Research

The ITB Geothermal Master’s Program conducted a collaboration meeting with PT Thermochem Indonesia and West JEC Inc. on Wednesday, 21 May 2026, at the Geo Dipa Energi Room, 2nd Floor, Energy Building, FTTM ITB. The meeting focused on developing strategic partnerships to strengthen geothermal education, research collaboration, and industry engagement.

The discussion was attended by representatives from the three institutions, including Heru Berian Pratama, Ph.D., Dr. Suryantini, Prof. Hendra Grandis, Dr. Sutopo, Dinda Permatasari, M.T., and Fauziah Maswah, M.T. from ITB. Representatives from PT Thermochem Indonesia included Miranti Kusuma (Director) and Ali Fahrurrozie (Operations Manager), while Takayanagi and Yayan Sofyan represented West JEC Inc.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a proposed collaboration framework at the level of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the ITB Geothermal Master’s Program, PT Thermochem Indonesia, and West JEC Inc. The proposed partnership consists of both Funding Schemes Collaboration and Non-Funding Schemes Collaboration.

The funding collaboration scheme includes student scholarship opportunities and sponsorship support for the ITB International Geothermal Workshop (IIGW). Meanwhile, the non-funding collaboration scheme covers several academic and professional development activities, including field camp support as trainers, knowledge transfer and guest lectures, student internship programs, thesis and research co-supervision, access to geothermal field sites and operational data, as well as curriculum advisory contributions from industry experts.

One of the key points discussed during the meeting was the opportunity for ITB geothermal students participating in the double degree program with Kyushu University to conduct collaborative research together with West JEC, further strengthening international academic and industrial cooperation.

Both parties agreed to finalize the collaboration agreement before the upcoming IIGW event, where the partnership is planned to be officially announced and ceremonially recognized.

This meeting marked an important step toward enhancing collaboration between academia and industry to support the development of geothermal expertise, research capacity, and sustainable energy innovation in Indonesia and internationally.
