The Geothermal Simulation Training was held for five days, from January 16 to January 20, 2023. The program took place at the Exploration Room, Energy Building 2nd Floor, starting at 08.00 and finishing at 16.40 each day. The training was officially opened on Monday, January 16, 2023, by Ms. Pudyo Hastuti, Manager of Exploration Geoscience & Reservoir Engineering at PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, who is also an alumna of the ITB Geothermal Master’s Program (Class of 2012, PGE batch).

Throughout the five days, participants engaged in a series of topics designed to enhance their understanding of geothermal reservoir modeling.

• Day 1: Introduction to Geothermal Reservoir Modeling, Geothermal Conceptual Models, and Principles & Methodology of Geothermal Reservoir Modeling.

• Day 2: Numerical Simulation Methods and Reservoir Modeling Processes.

• Day 3: Vapor-Dominated Geothermal Reservoir Modeling and Practical Exercises on Building a Vapor-Dominated Reservoir Model.

• Day 4: Liquid-Dominated Geothermal Reservoir Modeling and Practical Exercises on Building a Liquid-Dominated Reservoir Model.

• Day 5: Resource Estimation and Case Study: Discussion and Problem Solving.

The training was delivered by Dr. Eng. Ir. Sutopo, M.Eng., lecturer at ITB Geothermal Master’s Program, and Ir. M. Ali Ashat, Dipl. Geothermal Tech., Advisory Board member, lecturer, and geothermal professional.

A total of 12 participants attended the training — nine (9) from the Exploitation Function and three (3) from the Exploration Function. During the sessions, participants were actively engaged in each topic through lectures, discussions, and simulation exercises.

The training aimed to ensure that participants could:

• Understand the fundamentals of geothermal reservoir modeling techniques,

• Operate the TOUGH2 simulator and PetraSim interface software,

• Build geothermal reservoir models, and

• Perform basic resource estimations using reservoir simulation.
