Geothermal Forum: Rantau Dedap Geothermal Project Challenge

The Master’s Program in Geothermal Engineering, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), successfully held the Geothermal Forum Webinar Series 2022 with the topic “Rantau Dedap Geothermal Project Challenge.”

The Rantau Dedap project is known as one of the most challenging geothermal developments in Indonesia due to its remote location, steep terrain, and high elevation of around 2,600 meters above sea level. Adding to the complexity, the project’s construction took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. Located across Muara Enim Regency, Lahat Regency, and Pagar Alam City in South Sumatra Province, the Rantau Dedap geothermal power plant currently has a Phase-1 generation capacity of 91.2 MW.

In this week’s forum, Ismoyo Argo shared his insights and experiences in managing and overcoming the challenges throughout the Rantau Dedap project development. The session was moderated by Ahmad Fathoni and attended by participants from academia, industry, and government sectors.

The event was held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join both online via Zoom and YouTube as well as onsite at ITB. The discussion highlighted the project’s technical, logistical, and environmental challenges, offering valuable lessons for future geothermal developments in similar terrains.
