Field Trip of ITB Geothermal to Dieng Geothermal Power Plant (PT Geo Dipa Energi)

Dieng, 27–28 Oktober 2024 — Program Studi Magister Teknik Geotermal Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) successfully conducted a field trip to the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP Dieng), operated by PT Geo Dipa Energi Unit Dieng. The activity was part of the PB5004 Geothermal Systems and Technology course and was attended by graduate students, teaching assistants, and supervising lecturers from the program.

On the first day, participants gained direct exposure to the operational aspects of PLTP Dieng, including the Surface Above Ground System (SAGS) and the overall geothermal power generation process, from production to electricity distribution. The field trip included visits to the power plant facilities and wellpads. Technical explanations from Geo Dipa Energi experts, followed by interactive discussion sessions, provided participants with in-depth insights into the challenges and opportunities in geothermal development.

On the second day, the participants conducted field observations at several geothermal manifestations in the Dieng area, including Candradimuka Crater, Sileri Crater, and Sikidang Crater. These activities aimed to enhance understanding of the Dieng geothermal system. Students also carried out field measurements of physical parameters such as temperature, pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), and other indicators across different types of geothermal manifestations.

The Program Studi Magister Teknik Geotermal ITB extends its sincere appreciation to PT Geo Dipa Energi Unit Dieng for the warm hospitality and valuable learning opportunities provided during the field trip. This hands-on experience is expected to strengthen students’ practical understanding and support their future contributions to the development of sustainable and renewable geothermal energy.
