The International Geothermal Standards Committee (IGSC) has officially been launched in Beijing a major milestone toward establishing a harmonized global framework for geothermal development. The launch was attended by leaders from Sinopec and International Geothermal Association (IGA), including Dr. Eng. Suryantini, Vice President of IGA. The Committee confirmed its leadership structure and approved its 2025–2026 Work Programme, with a focus on developing global recommended practices for geothermal terminology, resource assessment, ground-source heat pump projects, and power generation. Plans were also set to establish two new working groups in 2026 one on drilling technologies and another on deep geothermal heating and cooling systems. The IGSC is scheduled to reconvene at the World Geothermal Congress 2026 in Calgary to present progress and to further strengthen international collaboration in advancing the geothermal sector.
