The use of fossil energy has increased due to the growing demands that affect depleting fossil energy reserves. For this reason, the transition from fossil energy to renewable energy has become a must. To anticipate an energy crisis, the government is drawing up various strategies, such as boosting exploration activities and optimizing the use of renewables. Indonesia is recorded to have more than 400 GW of renewables potential, with only 2.5% or 10 GW has been utilized (ESDM, 2020).
According to Indonesia Law, Article 1 paragraph (6) of Law no. 30 of 2007 on Energy state that “renewable energy sources are energy sources that produced from sustainable energy resources if appropriately managed, including geothermal, wind, bioenergy, solar, water and waterfalls, movement and differences in ocean temperature”. Synergy for energy transition must be implemented before Indonesia run into an energy crisis.
ITB International Geothermal Workshop is a series of thematic events that are held annually since 2012 by the Geothermal Master Program of Institut Teknologi Bandung. We gave birth to the brainstorming idea of the theme “Synergy for Energy Transition: The Role of Geothermal Energy in Energy Transition”.
This event will be held online on July 26-29th, 2021 and we expect that the event will become a melting pot for the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and solving technical and non-technical geothermal issues in Indonesia. This year, ITB International Geothermal Workshop 2021 would be our 10th event, focusing more on producer and technology of geothermal energy.
