Geothermal Study Program ITB Join the ASEAN-Japan BUILD-UP Cooperative Education Program for Global Human Resource Development in Earth Resources Engineering
In January 10-13, 2013, three staffs and two students attended the Seminar on ASEAN-Japan BUILD-UP Cooperative Education Program for Global Human Resource Development in Earth Resources Engineering. The staffs and students are Ir. Nenny M. Saptadji, Ph.D, Dr. Sutopo, and Dr.Eng. Suryantini, and Stephanus Kusuma Adi S.T, and Mahesa Pradana Saputra S.T. respectively. The students presented their paper while the staffs were mostly discussed about the Build-Up Cooperative Education Program.
The program was initiated by Kyushu University Japan and sponsored by Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS). Eight (8) universities from Japan and ASEAN country were involved in this program apart from the leader that is Department of Earth Resources Engineering Kyushu University. They are Waseda University Japan, Chulalongkorn University Thailand, University of the Philippines, University Sains Malaysia, Ho Chi Minh University of Technology Vietnam, Institute of Technology of Camodia, and two university from Indonesia those are ITB and Gadjah Mada University. These universities are part of ASEAN University Network (AUN). The education topic compose of six major specialization those are Mining-Economic Geology , Ore Processing – Production Engineering, Geology-Geophysics, Petroleum, Geothermal, and Geological Hazard Mitigation. ITB contribute from three Study Program those are Study Program of Geothermal Technology, Mining Study Program and Geology Engineering Study Program.
The Build-Up Cooperative Education Program is not only for Undergraduate but also for Graduate. The program consist of three main programs those are International Internship for Undergraduate, School on the Move and Double Degree Program for Graduate.
The Leader of The Build-Up Cooperative Education program is Prof. Koichiro Watanabe of Kyushu University. There are four host universities from three country; Kyushu University Japan, Chulalongkorn University Thailand, and ITB and Gadjah Mada University Indonesia. The goal of this program is to Train of Global Human Resources in Earth Resource Engineering for the next 20-30 years among ASEAN country and Japan. This training is expected to create an internationally succesfull human resources based in ASEAN and Japan where they were probably a leaders at Global Industry, a Leading Researchers at Universities or others. The pre-kick off meeting has been conducted on December 2012 in Japan and continued with kick off seminar in Bangkok on January 2013. After that immediately the first program was launced around mid of this year. It is expected about 30 students participate in International internship, 40 students participate in School on the Move and about 5 students are enrolled in Double Degree every year. The credit they earned can be transferred to the credit at home university by ASEAN Credit Transfer or ACT.
